Just wanted to provide you with an update from the arduous task of creating a graphical user interface for Thunder&Lightning. The new settings dialog is now fully working, as is (apart from a few cosmetic issues) the keyboard and mouse/joystick button dialog. These settings are all properly saved to disk (in directory ~/.tnl).
